Reading & Literacy Groups in Roanoke, vA

Small-group support to help children build the skills they need to become confident readers.

Learning to read involves much more than memorizing words. Children need strong language and foundational literacy skills to recognize sounds, connect sounds to letters, blend sounds together, understand words, and make meaning from what they read.

At Over the Moon Speech, we offer small-group Reading & Literacy Groups designed to give children an engaging, supportive place to practice these important skills.

Our 6-Week Reading Club

Our Reading Club is a fun, interactive 6-week group designed for children who would benefit from extra practice with foundational reading and literacy skills.

Each week, children will participate in hands-on activities, games, books, and conversation-based activities designed to strengthen early reading skills while keeping learning engaging and fun.

What We’ll Work On

Depending on the needs of the group, activities may target:

• Phonological and phonemic awareness
• Rhyming and identifying sounds in words
• Recognizing and manipulating sounds
• Letter-sound relationships
• Blending sounds together
• Segmenting words into sounds
• Early decoding skills
• Building vocabulary
• Listening and language comprehension
• Understanding and talking about stories
• Building confidence with early reading
